As an active participant of the Rehoboth Employment Placement Program, Pamela has been exploring new employment that suits her abilities and gifts. With support from her job coach, Pamela has explored different employment opportunities and options. This exploration unlocked an opportunity for Pamela to start volunteering at the Coaldale Health Centre.
Pamela goes into the Coaldale Health Centre twice a week helping the nurses deliver water to the senior residents. This work is very meaningful. Not only does it help alleviate work pressures for the nurses, but it brightens up the day of the residents. The residents Pamela assists are experiencing medical concerns that renders them in the hospital for an extended stay. These residents sometimes experience loneliness and isolation. Pamela’s short visit can mean the world to the residents and Pamela is often greeted with smiles and hugs.
In addition, this volunteer experience has helped Pamela discover herself. Monthly, Pamela and her Rehoboth employment job coach reflect on her volunteer work. Together they have discovered that one of her greatest gifts is her big heart! By giving of herself to others, she has found her calling. She now would like to narrow down her employment search to jobs that help others. She has even asked her Volunteer Coordinator at the Health Centre to keep an eye out for any jobs where she can use her amazing gift.
"The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
